Geoff Harte's good nature and eagerness to help others earned him a long salute from the person behind the controls of the Interstate 5 Bridge.

The bridge tender gave the signal horn an unusually long blast during a tugboat memorial service for the local tugboat captain, said his friend Rex Caffall.

Washougal resident Geoffrey Michael Harte died Nov. 20. He was 58.

 tugboat that sank off the N.C. coast a year ago, killing three crew members, may become another attraction for divers and fishermen in the Graveyard of the Atlantic.
The owner of the tugboat Valour scrapped plans earlier this year to salvage the 135-foot vessel from the sea floor about 35 miles southeast of the Cape Fear River.

Now the company, Overseas Shipholding Group, is planning to leave the boat in the water and is working with the Coast Guard to remove pollution and navigation hazards
