South Africa Offers Safe Harbor To Ships In Foul Weather PDF Print E-mail

South Africa reports that it has offered 'about 10'ships safe harbor as they ride out violent storms around that country's coast. South Africa's policy of offering maritime safety stands in contrast to many other coastal countries, which discourage requests for emergency shelter.

No Update On Infinity Marine 1 PDF Print E-mail

The Khaleej Times reports that there is still no indication of what has become of the M/V Infinity Marine 1. The ship was last seen leaving the Fujairah anchorage on June 10, bound for Somalia. The captain contacted the company on June 16 to report that the ship had encountered a cyclone. Since then, the ship - which was carrying 4,500 tons of dry goods - has not been heard from. The French and US Navy are looking for the ship, and a satellite search is also being conducted.  The ship did not issue any distress calls, nor has any debris been found, raising hope that the ship and crew are still safe.

The shipping industry is again preparing to celebrate Maritime Awareness Week. This year, the activities will take place from September 23-29 under the theme, 'The Maritime Industry Responding to Environmental Challenges'.

Maritime Awareness Week is an annual event on the calendar of the shipping industry. During this time activities highlight the work within the industry, aiming to create public awareness and to strengthen relationships within the shipping industry.

World Maritime Day will be Thursday, September 27, 2007
 
Port Of Tacoma Announces Joint Security Exercise PDF Print E-mail

The Port of Tacoma has announced a full-scale security training exercise, scheduled to take place on July 24, 2007 beginning at 8:00 AM and will conclude sometime in the early afternoon.  The exercise began with a simulated a ferry seizure, and will conclude with tomorrow's exercise, the emergency response to mock terrorist disasters around the Puget Sound.  More than 50 agencies will participate in the drill.

Hey guys/gals,

Send us picture of your freshly painted boat and you could win a bunch of nothing, but we may use your picture in our new home page image.

Now before you get all excited, you need to understand that I am currently working on a script that will take boats out of the Photo Gallery, and randomly display your image on the upper right hand side of the page, adjacent to tugboatlife.com image.
