US House Passes Water Resources Development Act PDF Print E-mail

The House of Representatives approved the Water Resources Development Act last week, which provides funding for the modernization of seven locks along the Upper Mississippi and Illinois Rivers, as well as improvements to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway at Bayou Sorrel and Matagorda Bay.

A Polish master of a 3,169 DWT cargo vessel was released on bail by British authorities after ramming his vessel, the Jork, into an unmanned platform 40 miles east of Cromer on Saturday. He was charged with being drunk on board the ship. Although he was not on duty at the time, he was unable to respond in an emergency. The boat is resting in about 50 feet of water. The boat's diesel fuel has dispersed.


 
British Government Considers Extending Sale of Red Diesel PDF Print E-mail

The British government is considering a proposal to continue to allow the sale of red diesel fuel for use by private boaters and the marine industry, although the sales of red diesel would be taxed at a higher rate. The move would eliminate the need to retrofit on-board fuel tanks and change the marine fueling infrastructure.

Vladivostok Hosts Russian Maritime Festival PDF Print E-mail

Vladivostok will play host to the international Young Captains of the World Ocean festival, September 12 and 13, 2007. The festival includes academic, professional and sport competitions, parades, concerts and a bonfire.  The purpose of the festival is to raise the prestige and awareness of Russian maritime education.
