In honor of the 232nd anniversary of the founding of the United States Merchant Marine, a memorial was held June 12 at the United States Navy Memorial in Washington, DC to honor those members of the USMM who died in service to the United States.

Ship-to-Shore Satellite Fax Service Available |

Iridium Satellite announced the availability of a ship-to-shore fax service that allows users to send and receive faxes from any Group 3 fax machine. The fax adapter stores and buffers fax transmissions before sending them through an Iridium gateway. The service is available through Iridium Satellite resellers and is priced on a per-minute basis, with rates similar to those of its data service. |

NCS FuelTrax Provides Satellite-based Fuel Tracking Service |

Nautical Control Solutions will use the Iridium Satellite network to support its FuelTrax fuel monitoring system. The FuelTrax system features fuel flow sensors and engine room electronics to collect real-time data on fuel consumption speed and heading. The information is transmitted to a shore-based service called FuelNet for permanent storage and on-demand viewing. The service also features a graphical mapping system that shows fuel consumption and fuel events along the vessel's route. FuelTrax provides a highly accurate record of fuel consumption, transfer and loading. |

Blue Ocean Wireless Offers Inmarsat Connectivity Through Stratos |

Blue Ocean Wireless will offer Inmarsat satellite services to its customers in a partnership deal with Stratos, announced on Friday. Under the terms of the deal, Blue Ocean Wireless will install equipment at each of Stratos' Land Earth Stations worldwide, enabling terrestrial connectivity to GSM operators via the StratosNexus network. In addition to providing full mobile phone service in deep water, Blue Ocean Wireless will be able to provide tracking and monitoring services for individual containers aboard merchant vessels around the world. |
