COOS BAY, Ore. - A new, one of a kind barge that's been four years in the making here on the south coast is finally ready to stretch its legs.

The planning of the barge, which is named Kamakani began in 2004 and two years later actual building on the vessel began.

Mississippi River Oil Spill Barge Finally Hauled Away PDF Print E-mail

The barge responsible for last monthÂ’s Mississippi river oil spill has finally been removed from the water. With the barge finally gone, attention will likely shift to the Coast GuardÂ’s investigation into the July 23 spill. A hearing into the incident is scheduled to begin tomorrow, and several crew members from a tugboat and tanker involved in the accident are slated to testify.
