Not our Queen, though!

Majestic America Lines has announced that it will retire the Delta Queen, a 1926 steel-superstructure wooden steamboat, in November 2008, following refusal by Congress to pass a safety exemption for the boat. Congress had previously exempted the boat from regulatory compliance six times since 1940. The Delta Queen cruised the Upper and Lower Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Black Warrior and Cumberland rivers as well as the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. The Delta Queen is the only steamboat to have crossed the Panama Canal.

Tugs Help Test Unalaska's Emergency Rig PDF Print E-mail

Several agencies and entities participated in the first test of the emergency towing system, developed for Unalaska Bay, in response to the grounding of the M/V Salica Frigo in March of this year. The accident prompted Unalaska Mayor Shirley Marquardt to develop a disaster plan for moving a grounded vessel that threatened the coastline of Unalaska Bay. The M/V Baltic Prosperity, Alaska Marine Pilots, the U.S. Coast Guard, and three tug boats, Unalaska's emergency towing system (ETS) gear successfully tested the new system in Unalaska Bay on July 31.
