Not our Queen, though!
Majestic America Lines has announced that it will retire the Delta Queen, a 1926 steel-superstructure wooden steamboat, in November 2008, following refusal by Congress to pass a safety exemption for the boat. Congress had previously exempted the boat from regulatory compliance six times since 1940. The Delta Queen cruised the Upper and Lower Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas, Black Warrior and Cumberland rivers as well as the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. The Delta Queen is the only steamboat to have crossed the Panama Canal.
