Change of Plans for Washburn and Doughty PDF Print E-mail

Washburn and Doughty have scrapped plans to expand their tug building operations in Harpswell, ME. The company had been negotiating with the town for use of land formerly occupied as a navy fuel depot.  The company will instead expand its existing facility. The company and the town were unable to come to an agreement quickly enough to place the initiative on the upcoming November ballot.  The Harpswell location plans were opposed by local residents, despite the fact that the facility would have brought 50 new jobs to the area.

Family-Owned Towing Operation 'Unretires'Tug PDF Print E-mail

The once-retired Great Lakes tugboat Forney is being put back to work to service the Twin Ports of Duluth, MN and Superior, WI. The tug will be used by a startup family-owned towing company owned by Mike Ojard, and sons Pat and Vince.  The Forney has been moored since 2004, with its last duty station being Manitowoc, WI.  The Ojard family has been heavily involved in towing. Mike Ojard's uncle, father and brothers also had careers in the towing industry.
