The BBC reported that a British Coast Guard vessel was placed on standby after a tanker carrying 5,000 tons of sulphuric acid ignored advice to move the ship from Pentland Firth before dropping anchor to make repairs. While repairs were underway, the Maltese-registered West Sailor began to drift near Orkney in gale force winds. In April, the same ship hosted a bonfire in its engine room while off the coast of Ireland.
