Study says tugboats are sootiest for amount of fuel used PDF Print E-mail

They may be relatively small, but tugboats puff out more soot for the amount of fuel used than other commercial vessels, according to a new study.

Scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Colorado found that tugboats emit almost a gram of soot per kilogram of fuel burned. Oceangoing tankers and freighters release half a gram of soot per kilogram of fuel burned while at dock and slightly less while moving, according to the study in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

TITAN successfully refloats grounded ferry Arcangel in Cancun, Mexico PDF Print E-mail

Aerial View of Arcangel project site (POMPANO BEACH, Fla.; July 1, 2008) TITAN Salvage reported today that it has successfully refloated a ferry, once grounded in a lagoon just north of Cancun, Mexico and redelivered her to her owners.

The Arcangel, a 350-foot ferry that was no longer in service, was docked at Puerto Morelos when it was blown about a half-mile off its mooring during a severe winter storm in November 2007. A 10-man team, which included TITAN salvage specialists and local Mexican labor, were contracted and began the salvage job on May 19, and the work was concluded a month later.
