Crowley Steps Up Hiring and Training For Tug Personnel PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 09 July 2007 07:00
Crowley announced last week that it had hired 21 Class of 2007 graduates from the nation's merchant marine academies to offset crew shortages. The new hires will receive additional training in the basics of towing, operating procedures and safety. Once they complete the training program, the graduates will then embark on a one-month sail to gain hands--on experience. The hiring push is one element of a strategy adopted last year by Crowley to recruit and retain qualified personnel. The company is encouraging cadet shipping on its tugs and expanding its participation in maritime academy programs that focus on the towing industry.

(IP: 74.235.128.58) Let Ballah tell you the only reason you need to know as to why the 'TWIC'card wont work. I'm not talking about the Coast Guard involvement that ALWAYS spells failure. I'm talking about the one constant in any American security plan from the airport to Walmart. That reason is the failure to force EVERYONE to participate. Every M.Marine and port worker will shell out that money for their card, but the pizza boy from Dubai will still be rolling right up in there to bring that Meat Lovers special, with an expired drivers license and NO CLUE of what a twic card is. UPS and DHL and FEDX will still roll in and out. The big boss's daughter will still come in with a car load of her friends to get money from pop in the big office. 30 feet from the ship that YOU have to show that twic to board or load cargo, some jackass on a 22 foot Bayliner will wave at you, and NEVER know what a twic card is. And don't even get me started on taxi drivers and couriers. Its like taking your shoes off at the airport, it just makes you think that somebody is doing something to keep you safe. Keeping the lawful lawful wont help you stop criminals. Never has, never will, and that's on the real.
