Gladiator Invader-Class Tug(NEAH BAY, Wash.; July 1, 2008) A Crowley emergency response tug began its first day of year-round service today in Neah Bay, Wash.

The emergency response tug will provide assistance to disabled ships and protect the coastline in an unprecedented tour in Washington - providing 365 continuous days of service in an effort to help prevent oil spills in the Strait of Juan de Fuca and along Washington's pristine coastlines.

Crowley’s West Coast Harbor Tugboat Fleet Now Running Exclusively on Ultra Low S PDF Print E-mail

(SEATTLE; April 15, 2008) With ultra low sulfur diesel fuel being offered by Rainier Petroleum in Puget Sound beginning today, Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that its entire fleet of West Coast harbor tugboats is now utilizing the more environmentally friendly fuel.

Ultra low sulfur diesel, while about four cents more per gallon than regular diesel, has a much lower sulfur content (less than 15 parts per million [ppm]), as compared to the 500 ppm diesel previously available.  The reduction in sulfur content should result in an approximate 16 percent reduction in particulate matter emitted out the stacks of the tugs.
