(SEATTLE; April 15, 2008) With ultra low sulfur diesel fuel being offered by Rainier Petroleum in Puget Sound beginning today, Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that its entire fleet of West Coast harbor tugboats is now utilizing the more environmentally friendly fuel.
Ultra low sulfur diesel, while about four cents more per gallon than regular diesel, has a much lower sulfur content (less than 15 parts per million [ppm]), as compared to the 500 ppm diesel previously available. The reduction in sulfur content should result in an approximate 16 percent reduction in particulate matter emitted out the stacks of the tugs. |
