USCG Says Seaboat Barge Crash Was Avoidable PDF Print E-mail

The US Coast Guard believes that a crash between a barge and a pleasure boat could have been avoided. The 24-ft craft was anchored in the navigation channel when it was struck by The Patriot, a petroleum barge owned by Seaboat and being pushed by the tug Donald C., at the time of the accident. The barge was en route to Hartford, CT, from New York when the collision occurred. A passenger aboard the pleasure boat was killed in the accident.

Captain Intentionally Grounds Tugboat PDF Print E-mail

The captain of a 57-foot tugboat, the Lori B, intentionally grounded his vessel after it struck bottom and began taking on water overnight in the Columbia River. The vessel was refloated and commercial salvors are making repairs. The tug was pushing an empty 240-ft barge at the time of the accident.
