Saturday, 13 October 2007 06:26
A US Navy sailor was killed on Thursday night on the James River when the 24-ft special warfare craft he was on collided with a tug boat. Two other sailors were injured in the collision and were located immediately. The sailor who was killed was not located until 8:00 am on Friday morning, during a search conducted jointly by the Navy, the US Coast Guard and the Virginia Marine Resources police.

The boat was among five Navy vessels participating in a night-time training exercise. The craft the sailors were on can be used for the insertion and extraction of Navy SEALs. None of the three sailors involved in the accident were SEALs, but were combat support sailors.
