A 23-year-old Des Allemands man -- working on a barge -- died after falling into the Mississippi River Sunday.
Johnathan Luna died early Monday morning. He was working on a barge near Algiers at Richland Road when he fell into the water sometime after 11 p.m. Sunday.

New Orleans Emergency Medical Services workers arrived at the scene about 11:30 p.m. Sunday and waited more than 10 minutes for the barge to deliver the patient, who then was transported in critical condition to the LSU Trauma Center, an EMS official said.

Luna died at 12:30 a.m. Monday at the hospital, said John Gagliano, chief investigator for the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office.
