The Coast Guard says a deadly boat accident off the coast of Brooklyn was caused when a fishing boat ran into the cable between a barge and a tugboat.

The 24-foot fishing boat capsized shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday in the Ambrose Channel. The Coast Guard says the boat apparently ignored warning fog horn blasts from the tug boat and an effort by the tug boat captain to shine a light on the 1,500 foot cable.

Four men were on board the yacht. John Isello of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey and Robert Chacon of Saddle Brook, New Jersey were killed. One man was rescued by a passing fishing boat. Another was rescued by NYPD divers.

"All of a sudden a hand came down and grabbed me on my shoulder, which I certainly wasn't expecting under water in the dark,” said NYPD diver Detective Francis Vitali. “The hand moved, [and at] that point I realized obviously we got a live individual in here. I put my head up and realized that there was, in fact, an air pocket inside the boat itself."

The Coast Guard says none of the men were wearing a life jacket.
