Okla. (AP) - Police say there were no injuries and no traffic accidents caused when several loose barges struck a bridge support near Muskogee tonight. click READ MORE to read more Authorities have closed U.S. Highway 62 between Muskogee and Fort Gibson to examine the damage caused when the empty barges hit the bridge that crosses the Arkansas River. Emergency management officials and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation were assessing the damage, and a tugboat was being used to corral additional barges that floated past the bridge but did not strike it. Police were uncertain how the barges broke loose from the Port of Muskogee or how long the bridge would remain closed.
