Work is getting underway on the salvage operation to recover a tugboat which sank in the Clyde, claiming the lives of three crewmen. The Flying Phantom sank in icy conditions last month. A lifting barge is being moved into position this morning. The Flying Phantom has been lying in 30 feet of water near Clydebank since it capsized on the 19th of December. The operation to recover the vessel begins today. A barge capable of lifting 400 tonnes has been brought in from Belfast to raise the tug. The recovery operation is part of the investigation into why the Flying Phantom sank without warning in freezing conditions, while towing a cargo vessel to a dock on the Clyde.
