Indiana U Team Finds Captain Kidd's Ship PDF Print E-mail

An archaeology team from Indiana University believes it has located the wreckage of the Quedagh Merchant, the ship abandoned by the notorious pirate Captain William Kidd. The wreck lies in just 10 feet of water and has been virtually untouched by looters.  The Quedagh Merchant was believed to have been scavenged and burned shortly after being abandoned off the coast of Catalina Island.  The Dominican government has granted the university permission to study the wreckage and convert it to an underwater preserve that is open to snorkelers and divers.

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- A U.S. underwater archaeology team announced Thursday it has likely discovered the shattered remnants of a ship once captained by the notorious buccaneer William Kidd off a tiny Dominican Republic island.
