Has your employer asked you to sign a promissory note for training they say is mandatory? Think about it if the training is so important to them why do you have to pay for it. What makes matter worse is now you are an indentured servant for the next two to three years or whatever the company deems appropriate to repay the training cost. Should you leave the employment of the company for any reason YOU are responsible for the total cost of the training even though the company received the benefits of you having the training while you were under their employ. The simple solution for this is, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SIGN A PROMISSORY NOTE. If you so desperately need a school pay for it yourself and take the cost off you taxes. If enough sailors stand up to these practices employers will soon learn that we might not be quite as stupid as they would like us to be. If in doubt consult a lawyer. Don't blindly sign any company document that requires you to pay anything.
