A 500-gallon fuel oil spill over the weekend on the St. Johns River in Florida is being attributed to a local towing company. The US Coast Guard responded to the spill, which happened early Saturday morning, near the Lions Club Boat Ramp. The Coast Guard will not name the company responsible for the accident until its investigation is complete. Recovery and cleanup efforts have begun, but no damage estimates have been made. The spill has coated the shoreline in the area of the accident, and could also affect local wildlife. Click Read More for a link to the full story. From The Florida Times-Union: Randy Swindle didn't think much about the fuel fume smell at his usual Arlington fishing spot until he saw the thick black film covering the St. Johns River. He stopped himself just before casting a net. He warned boaters not to launch into the oily water. He tried to shoo away birds landing on the bank. He saw one trying to clean sludge from its bill with its foot.
