'At this point ... the tugboat did everything it was supposed to do,' said Chief Bob Laura, the Coast Guard official, citing preliminary findings. click read more for link The tugboat, named the Melvin Lemmerhirt, was using a more than 1,500-feet tow line to pull a barge filled with dredged material when the crew spotted the yacht, Laura said. 'They saw him coming. They blasted a horn as a warning and swung around a searchlight,' he said. 'But by the time they did that, that was it.' In addition to the horn blasts and use of the spotlight before the impact, the tug also used a 'tow light' to signal that it was towing a barge, Laura added.
