The US Coast Guard believes that a crash between a barge and a pleasure boat could have been avoided. The 24-ft craft was anchored in the navigation channel when it was struck by The Patriot, a petroleum barge owned by Seaboat and being pushed by the tug Donald C., at the time of the accident. The barge was en route to Hartford, CT, from New York when the collision occurred. A passenger aboard the pleasure boat was killed in the accident.
