Global Crew Shortage Reaches Crisis Point PDF Print E-mail

Captain Pradeep Chawla, director of safety and qualifications rules for the Anglo-Eastern group recently delivered a presentation on the global shortage of qualified officers and crew members in the shipping industry.  According to Chawla, recruitment of a minimum of two cadets per vessel is required to sustain adequate human resources. The worldwide shortage is expected to continue at least through 2009. Chawla says that continuous recruiting and training is needed to avoid future shortages.

It has been made all the more critical by a rising tide of safety and qualification rules, according to Capt Pradeep Chawla, director of safety, quality assurance and training for Anglo-Eastern. The Anglo Eastern Group supplies crews to shipping lines.
