A fire on board a methanol tanker in Beijing ignited three other nearby ships, also carrying methanol. The 20-alarm blaze consumed four ships with a combined capacity of 576 tons, but only one sailor was injured in the mishap. The first ship to ignite sank shortly after the fire broke out. No signs of leakage have been found among the three remaining ships, which are all owned by the same transport company. The mishap has not caused contamination in the Hanjiang River, a source for drinking water for Wuhan, a city with a population of five million people.
