A Filipino crew member of the 37-ft anchor handling tug MV Douala Tide died when the vessel capsized and sank in heavy seas off the coast of Port Alfred, South Africa last week. The vessel was en route from Dubai to Douala, Cameroon when it encountered six- to eight-meter swells and winds of 20-25 knots. The captain of the vessel issued a distress call, indicating that the vessel was listing and sinking. A yacht in the area picked up seven of the eleven crew members, and the South African Air Force retrieved an additional three from the water, including the captain, but were unsuccessful in their attempts to save the last crew member. The deceased crew member has not been publicly identified, pending the notification of his family. The remaining personnel were all in good condition in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
