The tanker which got stuck on rocks on Tuesday near Vladivostok after
the captain fell asleep on watch, was refloated by a tugboat later on
the day, a press statement from Primorye’s Department of Russia’s
Ministry for Emergency Situations said. The tanker ‘Mekhanik Rudenko’, with a crew of six people and a cargo of over 100 metric tons of oil, ran aground three kilometers off the Basargin peninsula early in the morning while traveling from the Ussurisky Bay to the Bosfor Vostochny Strait. “The tanker hit the underwater rocks on full speed,” Ria Novosti news agency cited a representative of Vladivostok’s Rescue and Coordinating Center. According to the rescuers, the tanker’s captain allegedly fell asleep during his watch. The vessel was dislodged from the rocks by tugboat Lazurit at noon after all the oil was pumped out to the nearby vessel. No casualties, the tanker’s major damages or oil leakages were reported from the incident, the statement from the Department said. http://vn.vladnews.ru/issue583/Special_reports/Captain_asleep_tanker_aground
