For lovers of harbor activity, the 15th annual New York Tug Boat Race and Competition will offer something to watch on Sunday, September 2.A range of tugs, from the 7,000-horsepower Lincoln Sea to the tiny, historic W.O. Decker from South Street Seaport, will compete in various categories. The event begins with a parade of tugs, fireboats spraying water and a Coast Guard cutter. A one-nautical-mile race follows. A “nose-to-nose” contest will involve pairs of tugs that try to push each other backward.Organized by the Working Harbor Committee, the occasion kicks off at 10:30 a.m. from Pier 84, at the end of Manhattan’s West 44th Street. It concludes with an award ceremony at 2 p.m. A special spectator boat is available for $35. Visit www.WorkingHarbor.Org or call 212-581-0454.© Brooklyn Daily Eagle 2007
