By Karen Brune Mathis Florida Times-Union JACKSONVILLE, FL -- In just over a year, Jacksonville could see dramatic changes as the new Mitsui OSK Lines terminal opens at Dames Point. The Jacksonville Port Authority says Mitsui OSK could open by December 2008. When it does, it will open a direct shipping lane to Asia - and generate a huge area impact. The terminal could double the number of containers now coming into the port, which also means much more truck traffic in north Jacksonville, especially on New Berlin Road, Heckscher Drive and Florida 9a. Some road improvements are planned, but neighborhood leaders say much more is needed. The terminal will create 1,600 jobs - at an average $45,000, higher than Jacksonville's average wage of $39,300. It also could create almost 5,000 more spin-off jobs. Look for more distribution centers, both in north Jacksonville and at Cecil Commerce Center and possibly beyond. That also could mean more housing, more schools, more city services and more retail developments. http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/local/news-article.aspx?storyid=87560
