Several agencies and entities participated in the first test of the emergency towing system, developed for Unalaska Bay, in response to the grounding of the M/V Salica Frigo in March of this year. The accident prompted Unalaska Mayor Shirley Marquardt to develop a disaster plan for moving a grounded vessel that threatened the coastline of Unalaska Bay. It is now fully operational and ready for deployment.
