Tugs Help Test Unalaska's Emergency Rig PDF Print E-mail

Several agencies and entities participated in the first test of the emergency towing system, developed for Unalaska Bay, in response to the grounding of the M/V Salica Frigo in March of this year. The accident prompted Unalaska Mayor Shirley Marquardt to develop a disaster plan for moving a grounded vessel that threatened the coastline of Unalaska Bay. The M/V Baltic Prosperity, Alaska Marine Pilots, the U.S. Coast Guard, and three tug boats, Unalaska's emergency towing system (ETS) gear successfully tested the new system in Unalaska Bay on July 31.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska --  With the help of the Motor Vessel Baltic Prosperity, Alaska Marine Pilots, the U.S. Coast Guard, and three tug boats, Unalaska's emergency towing system (ETS) gear has been successfully tested in Unalaska Bay.  It is now fully operational and ready for deployment.
