A group of northern European companies will install a clean fuel-cell engine aboard a supply ship in 2008. Iceland will convert its entire fishing fleet to to hydrogen fuel cell engines. The engines are as much as six times more expensive than diesel generators but are up to 50 percent more efficient, halve the carbon emissions and virtually eliminate sulphur and nitrogen oxide exhausts. Fuel cells also have no moving parts, which reduces maintenance. They are also silent and vibration free.
