Friday, 13 July 2007 09:45
The Washington State Department of Ecology announced that it has offered a contract to Crowley Maritime Corp. to provide extended winter tug service in Neah Bay. The area has had rescue tug service since 1999. In that time, 34 ships have received assistance from the tug. Winter assistance is often needed by ships carrying oil through the Strait of Juan de Fuca to avoid rocks and other hazards. Crowley will station a tug in Neah Bay from October 1 to mid-March 2008 at a cost of $8,750 per day with the State of Washington picking up the tab.
