APM, which already runs a terminal at Hampton Roads, will turn that
over to the Virginia Port Authority when operations at the new terminal
begin. Hampton Roads is the third-busiest terminal on the East Coast
and handled more than 2 million TEUs in 2006. That figure matches the
capacity of the new terminal, effectively doubling the
container-handling capacity at Hampton Roads. The new terminal is
classified as a deep-water port and is expected to accommodate the
world's largest vessels.
