Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co., yesterday raised its 2007 target for new orders by more than 50%, on a sharp increase in the number of orders for container ships. Daewoo believes it can secure $17 billion in US orders, 55 percent higher than its original $11 billion goal. Daewoo also plans to spend $87 million to upgrade a South Korean dock dedicated to the manufacture of container ships. Daewoo currently has enough orders to keep itself busy through 2010.
