South Korean Ship Missing - Piracy Suspected PDF Print E-mail

 A South Korean freighter, the M/V Sea Prince has been listed as missing. The ship was last seen on May 11 as it loaded cargo in the Port of Djibouti in the Republic of Djibouti. Authorities became concerned when the Sea Prince failed to make a scheduled stop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The ship was carrying 2,400 tons of cereal, but it was not immediately known how many crew were aboard the ship.

This ship is owned by a US company and managed by a company in the Ukraine. Authorities believe the ship may have been captured by Somali pirates. If so, the M/V Sea Prince would be the fifth ship this year overtaken by Somalis. Fifteen attempts have been made to board ships in the region since the beginning of 2007.
