Officials in Australia say that the Pasha Bulker, stranded on a reef after a violent storm last Friday, now has a hole in the outer hull. The officials expressed confidence that the internal hull was still intact, however salvage crews have drained the ship's lower fuel oil tanks, transferring the oil to the upper part of the vessel. Ocean water is being pumped into the holds to stabilize the ship as it sits on the sandbar. Amid 12-ft swells, at least two super-tugs have been dispatched to the site, and a third could be called in to haul the vessel back out to sea. The links below show photos of the stranded ship.
